THE TWO MURALS CREATED BY THE YOUNG PEOPLE AT ACORNS HOSPICE IN 2010

AN ACORNS HOSPICE PATIENT DRAWING A RAPTOR, AND THE FINAL PRINT - 2011

Started in 1973,  by NADFAS, Young Arts provides exciting opportunities for children and young people to expand their horizons through their involvement in creative arts activities.

We aim to inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the arts and an awareness of our arts heritage and its conservation.  Our vision is equality of opportunity for all to learn through participation in the arts.

NADFAS encourages its Societies to provide Young Arts opportunities.  Young Arts Groups  are affiliated to a local Society.  These Groups organise regular arts-related activities for their young members aged 8-18. CoWDFAS
has organised very successful Young Arts Projects for young people, funded wholly or partly by our Society.

In 2009 we supported a very successful Young Arts Day at the Tudor Grange Academy. In 2010 we sponsored a professional artist to lead children and young people at the Acorns Hospice in creating two murals. These are shown above. In 2011 the same artist worked with other young people at the Hospice to create and print designs which, with our help, have now been published  as  cards, to be sold in the Acorns Hospice Shops.

The achievements of these young people had to be seen to be believed - really worthwhile projects!

NB: An article describing the creation of the murals appeared in the NADFAS Review in Summer of 2011
